Do Not Forget All God’s Benefits

-July 11, 2022-

Good morning, happy Monday,

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and forget not all His benefits.”

(Psalm 103:2).

David wrote this beautiful psalm of praise and thanksgiving for all the things God has done for us. We as human beings tend to be very forgetful, so God repeats things for us to reinforce them in our hearts and minds. In both verses one and two of this psalm, he says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul.” Thanking and praising God is something we must give diligent attention to every day.

God has blessed us with so many blessings and benefits we can scarcely consider or count them all. They are as numerous as the stars in the heavens. David mentions just a few of them in verses 3-5, He forgives all our iniquities, heals all our diseases, redeems our lives from destruction, crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies, and satisfies our mouths with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagles.

Paul in Ephesians 1:3 wrote, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ.” Though the OT saints had many blessings and benefits in their day, we have way more. Living on this side of the cross, we are fully blessed. We have these blessings and benefits now and will enjoy them for all eternity.

We often think of benefits when thinking about a job offer. In considering a company’s compensation package, one must not only think of the salary but also the benefits of healthcare, dental care, vision care, and all the other benefits. In the Christian life, salvation is our main blessing and all the others spring from that. Our hearts overflow with joy and gratitude when we ponder His many blessings and benefits. There is nothing that will turn around your day like thanking God for all He has done in your life.

The hymn writer Johnson Oatman, Jr. wrote, “Count your blessings, name them one by one; count your many blessings, see what God hath done.” Allow for enough time, and even then, you will run out of time before you run out of blessings!

Have a blessed day thanking God for all His benefits. Stay safe and healthy.

Rejoicing in God’s mercy and goodness,

Dean
