Good morning beloved, happy Saturday, Merry Christmas,
“And Mary said: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.”
(Luke 1:46-47).
The best and sweetest songs are those that come from the heart and spring up in praise to God. This was certainly the true with Mary’s song, commonly called, “ The Magnificat.” It is found in its entirety in Luke 1:46-55. It is well worth reading.
There are three notable songs that were sung by women in praise to God: Miriam praised God for delivering the Israelites from Pharaoh and his army at the Red Sea; Deborah’s praised God for the victory over their enemies; and of course, Mary’s song of praise to God our Savior.
Mary knew the Child she carried was nothing less than the Messiah, Christ the Lord. She took her role seriously and humbly. She refers to herself as lowly maidservant, who would be called for future generations, blessed. She acknowledged that God was her Savior, the One who would deliver Israel.
She mentions so many great things God done for her and all Israel. She gave all the glory to the Lord. So many give her too high a place, almost putting her ahead of Jesus. She was still a sinner who needed to be saved and forgiven, just as we do.
We have so much to be thankful for not only at Christmas, but all throughout the year. Jesus Christ was born to be our Savior. We are the chosen and called; we are the the children of God.
Have a blessed day rejoicing in God our Savior and magnifying His holy name, for who He is and what He has done for us. Stay safe and healthy.
Christmas time is just a beginning, in praising God with joyful singing.
