Good morning beloved, happy Friday,
“If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
(1 Peter 4:11).
There are three places in the NT that list and describe spiritual gifts. them. They are found in Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4, and 1 Peter 4. It makes it easier to remember them.
Though there are quite a few spiritual gifts listed in these chapters, Peter chose to put them into two main categories: speaking gifts and serving gifts. The Holy Spirit has given each us one or more spiritual gifts.
• Speak as the oracles of God – Speaking in the church includes preaching, teaching, Sunday School teaching, and anytime we share the gospel to those who are unsaved. It is a huge responsibility and a great privilege to speak forth the Word of God. Another word for “oracles” is, “utterances.”
• Minister (or serve) with the ability that God that God supplies – In reality a minister is one who serves humbly, faithfully, freely, and fully, not just behind the pulpit.
I believe that I have both speaking and serving gifts. I exercise both of them at church and all through the week. When I was young, I used to think of preaching as the most important ministry. As I grew older, I realized that serving and helping others is just as important as preaching and teaching.
Do you know your spiritual gift or gifts that God has given to you? The main goal of using our gifts is to glorify God and bring honor to the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Have a blessed Friday speaking and serving. Stay safe and healthy.
May we serve our wonderful master in heaven, with the ability that He has given.
Dean
