Good morning beloved, happy Thursday, happy Thanksgiving Day,
“In everything give thanks; for this the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
“Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ “ (Ephesians 5:20).
Paul wrote these challenging and encouraging verses; the first to the Thessalonians and the second to the Ephesians. More importantly, He wrote them to us.
Being thankful should be a way of life for believer, no matter what the circumstances may be. Paul leaves no wiggle room, we are to be thankful in and for all things. I came down with a sore throat and will miss our Thanksgiving time. I am thankful, but still there is disappointment.
• Give thanks in all things – The word “in”means in the midst of. In good times and bad; in pleasure or pain; in gain or in loss; in joy or in sorrow; in sunshine or rain. When we are in a trial it isn’t easy to give thanks; conversely it isn’t easy to thank the Lord when everything is going right and positive. We often take things for granted until we lose them or we start relying on ourselves, thinking we did it.
• Give thanks for all things – Here is where it becomes even tougher: to give thanks always for all things. You mean everything, Lord? You mean always? The answer is yes and yes; amen and amen. The reason we can do this is that God is in control and works all things together for good in our lives. Romans 8:28 is a tremendous promise, “And we know that all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” God has a plan even we can’t see or understand.
Let us be thankful today in and for all things. It is the secret to happiness and fulfillment. Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. Stay safe and healthy.
Give thanks with a grateful heart always right from the start.
Dean
