Jesus Will Come And Not Tarry

-November 17, 2025-

Good morning beloved, happy Monday,

“For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.”

(Hebrews 10:37).

God works on a completely different timetable than we do. We speak of minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. God on the other hand is not bound by time. He is eternal and works off an eternal timeline.

Jesus promised to come again and take us home to be with Him in heaven. It states this clearly in John 14:1-3. To us it seems a very long time since Jesus spoke that promise, over two thousand years ago.

Jesus calls it “a little while.” Jesus said in John 16:16, “A little while and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father.” Life on earth may at times seem so long but it is actually very short in the light of eternity.

We have God’s timing revealed in 2 Peter 3:8-9, “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slacknesses, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

He will not tarry or it can be rendered, delay. Only the Father knows the day and the hour of Jesus’ return. The word tarry is defined as, “to delay or be tardy in acting or doing; to linger in expectation; wait.” When we were late to elementary school, we would get “a tardy,” which was never good.

God is never late, He will not tarry. We should be watchful, prayerful, and hopeful in waiting for His coming. As the song says, “God said it, and I believe it, and that settles it for me.” Often Christians use the phrase “if the Lord tarries.” It is our way of speaking of something we need or want to do if the Lord hasn’t come yet. I just prefer to use the expression, “Lord willing.”

Have a blessed day of anticipation and expectation. Stay safe and healthy.

Keep your eye on the eastern sky. Jesus is coming soon, maybe in the morning, evening, or noon.
