Good morning beloved, happy Tuesday,
“The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.”
(1 Corinthians 16:19).
The early church did not meet in large buildings with elaborate decor, plush carpets, and stained glass windows. In fact, they met in homes. Their love for one another was fervent and their fellowship rich.
Paul mentioned several people who opened their houses for the meetings of the saints. Today’s verse speaks of Aquila and Priscilla, a godly couple who served with Paul. All three of them were tent makers who supported themselves and the work of the Lord.
Paul singled out in Colossians 4:15, Nymphas and the church in his house. Also, Paul in writing to his good friend Philemon said to him, “…To Philemon, our beloved brother and fellow worker, to the beloved Apphia, Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house” (Philemon 1:2). They were a husband, wife and son.
We no longer meet in homes, though there still some churches who do, especially ones that are just starting up. The lesson for us is that our houses are churches, sanctuaries of grace. The husband must take his role as a leader or pastor of the home. The wife is the leader of the youth ministry, and the children are part of the Sunday School. Homeschooling has been a great blessing for so many families in our church.
What role do you have in your home? Even if you are living alone, your house is still your church. As Christ is the Head of the church, He is also the Head of our homes. I have a plaque in my home that says, “Christ is the head of this house, the unseen guest at every meal, the silent listener to every conversation.”
Have a blessed day serving in the church in your house as well in your local church. The former is open 24-7. Stay safe and healthy.
Let our homes beacons of light in our neighborhoods.
