Consequences And Repercussions

-October 20, 2025-

Good morning beloved, happy Monday,

“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.’”

(Genesis 2:16-17).

God gave Adam and Eve one clear, simple, command: not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. On the other hand, they could eat freely from every other tree in the Garden of Eden, and I am sure there were many great ones. Personally, I love many kinds of fruits. If I don’t like a particular one, I choose a different one.

By eating from the forbidden fruit there were both consequences and repercussions for Adam and Eve, their children, and every human being since. The difference between a consequence and a repercussion is the former is a direct result of our actions and the latter are unintended results that occur sometime later, usually with unwelcome results to ourselves and others.

When Adam and Eve sinned, the result was spiritual and physical death. There were also repercussions such as they knew they were naked and they were banished from the garden. In addition, God cursed the ground, causing thorns and thistles, and making them sweat in their work. To Eve, there was multiplied sorrow and pain in childbirth.

We are sinners by nature and by practice; and there are consequences and repercussions for every sin. Praise God He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for us, in our place, so that by faith in His finished work on the cross would be forgiven and washed in the blood.

Let us be aware of the consequences and repercussions of our actions. As believers we need to repent and confess our sins to the Lord and He will restore our fellowship with Him.

Have a blessed day following God’s commandments. Stay safe and healthy.

Thought to ponder: People see what we do and we can either point them to Jesus or away from Him.
