Good morning dear saints, happy Lord’s Day,
“Set your mind on things above, not on things of earth.”
(Colossians 3:2).
You often hear the expression, “The right mindset.” It is typically used in sports and business. The word mindset is defined as, “a mental attitude or inclination; a fixed state of mind.”
As believers in Christ, we are encouraged to set our minds on the things above. This is set forth beautifully by Paul in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
What we think about determines our actions. If we think on heavenly things, we will live heavenly lives; if we think on earthly things, we will live earthly things. The devil seeks to distract us with TV, internet, smartphones, and other physical things. These things have a place but should have the preeminent place.
It is easy to get discouraged by the news we hear or read in our day and times. This is why Christian radio is such a blessing. I listen to Family Radio. I am so blessed by the messages from the Word of God, the hymns, and the uplifting words.
The things above are spiritual things about Christ’s death on the cross, His resurrection, His ascension, and His coming again; thoughts of heaven and eternity; and how to live for the Lord and serve Him. They say, “You can only think about one thing at a time.” The more time we spend thinking on the things above, the less time to be thinking on things of this sinful world. The right mindset leads us to thank God and trust in Him.
Have a blessed Lord’s Day in worship, fellowship, and the Word of God. Stay safe and healthy.
Our minds, like a computer, need a reboot and reset. Let us refocus our thoughts on the things above.
Dean
