Jesus Is The Light Of The World

Good morning beloved, happy Lord’s Day,

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined” (Isaiah 9:6).

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend (or overcome) it” (John 1:4-5).

Isaiah wrote of Christ hundreds of years before His birth in Bethlehem, speaking of a great light who would shine in the darkness, bringing hope, peace, and joy to those walking in darkness. John wrote of Him after His birth speaking of the life and light He brought into this dark world as the Light of the world.

John writing of John the Baptist, said, “This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through Him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world” (John 1:7-9).

Everyone of us before salvation was in darkness and the shadow of death. Sin, Satan, and world ruled our lives. We were in chains of darkness, without God and without hope in this world. Then Jesus the Light of the world came to save and deliver us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into kingdom of the Son of His love. Just imagine being transferred from darkness to light!

In 1991 I got a personalized license plate: JOHN812. I have kept it ever since. I also have a license plate frame around it that says, “Follow Jesus the light of the world.” John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” People who are unsaved in the world hate the light because their deeds are evil; we who believe love the light because our deeds are clearly seen that they have been done in God.

Jesus is our light; we are children of light who walk in His light. We must let our light so shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven.
