Learning From The Past

-August 30, 2023-

Good morning, happy Wednesday,

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”

(Romans 15:4).

The past can be a springboard to the future. God has been faithful in the past and will be faithful in the future. As I go in for my mitral value repair surgery today, I draw up what God has done for me through the years. He is the God of hope. We can trust in Him without fear, doubt, or worry.

The OT Scriptures were written for our learning. We have the benefit of the experiences of the saints that have gone before us. The writer of Hebrews said, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).

As we read and study the Word, there are good examples to emulate and bad ones to shun. God gave us both for our learning and edification. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:11, “Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” Someone once said, “A smart person learns from their mistakes, but a wise person learn from the mistakes of others.”

The past is an excellent teacher as long as we take heed to the lessons from it. It has been said, “Those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. “ May we learn from the Scriptures and from the lives of the great men and women of faith. Have a blessed day in God’s school. Stay safe and healthy.

Learning from the Lord Jesus Christ and all the Scriptures,

Dean
