Good morning, happy Friday,
“The Lord will record, when He registers the peoples: this one was born there.”
(Psalm 87:6).
As a society we keep all sorts of records. Many records are now digital and on line, but others are on paper. From the time we are born until we die, there this a record on us. A baby’s birth is recorded on a birth certificate with the baby’s name, the parent’s names and ages, the day and time of the birth, and the name of the physician, and the name of the hospital. It has to be signed by three people: the informant, usually the mother or father, the attendant, the physician who attended this birth, and the registrar who recorded it.
There are many other records issued to us in life, such as social security cards, drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, insurance policies, bank accounts, credit cards, clubs or associations, and many more. It is a lot to manage and keep track of. Some of our records can be lost, stolen, hacked, or destroyed. All can be replaced, though not easily. In life we must register for many different things.
God, on the other hand, has perfect records. When we are born again, God records it in heaven in the Lamb’s Book of Life. There are books for the unsaved which records everything they said or did. The Lord will judge them for their works of rejecting Him and the gospel of His grace. Nothing is missed, no detail overlooked.
John wrote in Revelation 20:11-15, “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and heaven fled away. And there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and the books were opened., which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up their dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire, this is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Praise God when we are saved and forgiven of our sins, we are given eternal life, and our names are written in the Book of Life. We are saved from the wrath to come. The Psalmist says, “The Lord will record, when He registers the peoples: this one was born there. We as believers have two births, one physical through our earthly parents, and the other through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit when we are born again. Are you the “this one?” The saint of God, the child of God? There is no greater blessing on earth or in heaven.
Let us rejoice in our salvation today. Jesus said to His disciples in Luke 10:20, “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Have a blessed day. Stay safe and healthy.
Grateful to be written in the Book of Life,
Dean
