Good morning, happy Lord’s Day,
“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent” (John 17:3)
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:11-13).
Eternal life is as gift from God that we receive through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. God has given mankind a free will, and thus each person must choose to receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. When we do, we know with certainty on the basis of God’s Word, we have it. The early Christians endured much persecution and suffering for the cause of Christ. The Romans were against them, as were the Jews and others.
The believers in Christ adopted the fish symbol as a way of identifying themselves to other believers that they came into contact with. It is called the ichthys, the Greek word for fish. As early as the first century they made an acrostic from this word: Iesous Christos, Theou Yios Soter, i.e. Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. Still today, Christians put this symbol on bumper stickers, signs, and jewelry. We as believers are called to be fishers of men.
It is a joy and blessing to have eternal life and know we will be with the Lord and all believers in heaven forever. It is always encouraging for me to meet other Christians, for we have a immediate bond in Christ. I ask people I think by their words may be saved, “Do you know the Lord?” when they say yes, I rejoice in the brotherhood. We connect on a spiritual level.
Have a blessed day rejoicing that you have eternal life in Jesus Christ. Stay safe and healthy.
In Christian bonds of love,
Dean
