Good morning, happy Lord’s Day, happy Independence Day,

-We Are A Blessed And Chosen Nation-

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”

(Psalm 33:12).

Today is our nation’s Independence Day and birthday. On July 4, 1776, our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. Then came the hardest part, winning that independence from Great Britain. The British, the strongest world power at that time were committed to squelching, squashing, and smashing our revolution. They even hired German troops, called Hessians, to help them.

The colonial army, led by George Washington, was largely comprised of farmers, businessmen, and other unprofessional soldiers. They took on the British and with God’s help and won a great victory. At the beginning though, times were tough and there more defeats than victories. General Washington was a devout believer in the Lord and spent much time on his knees in prayer.

We were blessed then and we are blessed now. The Lord has so favored us a nation and guided us and protected us down through the years. Freedom isn’t free, it cost many American lives, both men and women. Many were wounded and many gave their lives for us.

Our nation was founded on God and His Word. Our public and private schools were based on teaching the Bible as well our the other scholastic subjects. Harvard and Yale universities were theological schools, much different than they are today. Our people feared God, loved their families, established many churches, and lived in peace, liberty, and freedom.

We are not only blessed but we are chosen by God as His inheritance. God loved us and still loves America. Our national motto is, “In God We Trust.” True patriots put God first, then country. Their passion is equally strong for both. Sadly, our nation today is very divided and has drifted so far from God. We as believers in Christ should be model citizens, obeying our leaders, the laws, and the Word of God.

To be blessed is to be happy. America is not perfect but is still the greatest country on earth because of God in heaven. Psalm 144:13-15 describes our prosperity, “That our barns may be full, supplying all kinds of produce; that our sheep may bring forth thousands in our field; that our oxen maybe well laden; that there be no outcry in our streets. Happy are the people who are in such a state; happy are the people whose God is the Lord!” We are richly blessed and blessed richly in so many ways.

Let us thank God for our country and pray for her, stand beside her, defend her, and be proud to be Americans. There will be picnics, barbecues, fireworks, parades, and other celebrations today and tomorrow. May we never forget God our Blesser and Keeper. We have so much to thank God for! God bless America!

Have a blessed 4th of July! It is appropriate this year that it falls on the Lord’s Day. Stay safe and healthy.

In His grace,

Dean
