The Verse of the Day

June 5, 2020

-Good morning, happy Friday,

-Comfort And Edify One Another-

“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:11).

If there is one thing that is sorely needed in the church today is comfort and edification. It has been really hard to do since we have not been back to church since mid March. Praise God we do have in line sermons on Sundays and devotions on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Slowing things are opening up with many restrictions. God’s work continues on, God’s people continue on, and life continues on. It maybe quite awhile before we go back to the way it was pre-pandemic. We continue to pray for a vaccine.

Recently one of our church members contracted the Coronavirus from a neighbor who wasn’t aware of having. The member’s wife also is showing symptoms and being tested. We need to pray for them and all our members. We pray there won’t be a second waive of the illness.

Comforting one another is so important. We can all be comforters and comfort others. The only qualification needed is a heart of compassion and a willingness to share it. God has given us His Word, experiences we have gone through, and hope. God can and will use us.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:18, Paul wrote, “Therefore comfort one another with these words.” Which words? The message of the Lord’s coming to take us home (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). In today’s passage, Paul is referring to how we should live for the light of day of the Lord. The future is in the Lord’s hands and we should live soberly, putting on faith, hope, and live.

The other part of our verse today speaks of edification. To edify is to build up. Comfort offers hope and edification offers practical help to keep going forward and trusting the Lord with every step. In life we all need a little help along the way. We can’t make it on our own. The wonderful thing about comforting and encouraging others is that we get blessed ourselves. The giver and the receiver and both blessed.

May the Lord encourage us to comfort and edify one another in love. Let us help those in need and those who fall. We may be in the giving end today, but on the receiving end tomorrow.

Have a blessed and wonderful day about our Savior’s work. Stay safe and healthy.
